After a Costa Rica bed and breakfast, you will leave Playatas at 7am and start paddling the 22 km to San Josecito. On the way, your Costa Rica guide will lead you through a Mangrove forest on Esquinia River.
Day 3
On your final day, your guide will lead you across the gulf and back to Puerto Jimenez. You will arrive at base in time for a group lunch and the chance to share tales of your Costa Rica adventure.
Highlights
Through the clear waters of the Golfo Dulce you are likely to see three different species of dolphin; the bottleneck, the black spotted and the Spinner. In pods of up to several hundred, they will regularly rise to the surface and if you are lucky, ride alongside you. The leatherback turtle is also a common sight. Weighing up to 360kg and reaching sizes of 1.6 meters, you will spot it gliding along just underneath the surface. Humpback whales and whale sharks migrate for breeding at different times of the year.
One of the highlights of your Costa Rica trip is kayaking through the Mangroves. The thick cover of its trees and shrubs provide a haven for smaller animals, while its saline waters attract plenty of shrimp and mollusks. Yet all of this is far from the eco-system’s most interesting aspect. As you float through the waters, your guide will explain how mangroves work and why they are so important.
