About OSA Travel Costa Rica

Roger Blakemore After leaving his native England, Roger Blakemore traveled and lived in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. It opened his mind to another world; dramatic and diverse landscapes, from vast empty desert to dense forest and sprawling mountainscapes. When he eventually settled down, it wasn’t in England, but the sunny climes of California.

Sandy BlakemoreHowever, it wasn’t until years later and a Costa Rica family vacation to the Osa Peninsular that he found what he was looking for; miles of tropical rainforest and pristine beaches accommodating some of the rarest species of animals and plants on the planet. But it was more than that. The Costa Rican government completely understood the region’s environmental importance and for years had been protecting it from loggers and poachers. In the words of the National Geographic, it had become the most biologically intense place on Earth.

The one thing that bothered him was its perception outside Costa Rica. The information he was reading in the popular guides was generally unreliable and at times completely obsolete. It begged the question whether or not they cared enough to promote one of the few places genuinely committed to environmental tourism.

He decided to do something about it. In 2000, Roger and his family moved to the Osa Peninsular town of Puerto Jimenez and opened Osa Travel Costa Rica.

The Blakemore KidsThe company and Roger’s family have since flourished. His son Gareth so impressed with the Osa Peninsula he worked as a Costa Rica guide before eventually moving onto study crocodiles in the everglades.  His daughter Kelly ran an endangered primate centre in Vietnam and now works with primates at the Atlanta Zoo. His youngest daughter Alanna has recently graduated from Chico state California. Roger and his wife remain one of the few full-time residents of the region, their knowledge and commitment providing travelers with a fascinating glimpse into one of the most unique corners of the world.
